Finding Ways to Protect our Air, Water and Public Spaces

BQNA’s upcoming Annual general meeting on Wednesday June 3 features an evidence based/knowledge sharing panel providing facts and answering questions about the impact of a jet airport on our air and water quality and the value of protecting our access to nature and parkland.

Confirmed speakers are Dr. Marianne Hatzopoulou, scientific co-lead of our neighbourhood’s Air Quality study with the University of Toronto and Ron Jenkins, a life-time member of the National Yacht Club and a Director of Waterfront for All, a coalition of groups interested in the Waterfront’s future.

Marianne will present findings of a three year intensive NSERC funded Air Quality collection study of our community in partnership with the BQNA, the City of Toronto Planning and Public Health departments and Billy Bishop Airport.

Ron will make a visual presentation showing the infrastructure needed to support jet aircraft and the effect it could have on marine navigation, water quality, and water flow into the harbour and lake.

Please share this blog post for the June event. We look forward to providing an update on BQNA’s achievements this year along with insight from our panel.

Guest panelists:

Dr. Marianne Hatzopoulou

Tier 1 Canada Transportation Research Chair and Co-lead BQN Air Quality Study, University of Toronto

Ron Jenkins

Western Waterfront Director, Waterfront for All and Lifetime Member, National Yacht Club

A separate on water event being planned for early July – a flotilla of kayaks and canoes starting at Harbourfront Centre and travelling west past the busy Music Garden to the east side of the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre and an onshore community gathering in Little Norway Park or at the WNC afterwards.
