Councillor Ausma Malik announced the latest proposal for the Rees Street parking lot – an Aquatic Centre and park.

I’m excited to bring a new Aquatic Centre and Park at Rees St! I’ve made it a priority to bring the long-planned Waterfront West Pool to our community and I’m thrilled to bring a vision to transform the Rees St. parking lot into a new park and first-of-its-kind Aquatic Centre with complementary uses for our waterfront. The new park will be a landmark waterfront park and facility designed through an International Design Competition and create a dynamic destination and public space for residents and visitors alike. City staff working with Waterfront Toronto are completing due diligence and more updates are planned in early 2027, including public consultation.

The first international design competition for this site was done in 2018 and had decided on the Rees Ridge design but was never implemented.

The new aquatic centre is set to include an indoor pool, park, recreational and green space, making it a year-round facility. Project funding and timelines will be confirmed by the City's 2027 budget process according to the city project web site.

Currently a parking lot – the site of the future Aquatic Centre and park at Queens Quay West and Rees Street.
