On July 24, 2026 the federal government officially rejected the jets proposal citing an overwhelming 87% public opposition from over 87,000 survey respondents. The campaign to stop jets was hard won.

A June 30, 2026 city report has noted that the proposed Island Airport jet expansion would negatively impact the water quality of the inner harbour as well as reduce the impact of the billions of dollars invested in the Don River and Central Waterfront Project.
